Website Redesign and a Look Back on 2019

Here it is - Christmas 2019.  I hope you all have a great holiday, and a happy new year, as well!

Today I'm happy to announce the complete redesign of this website.  It looks cleaner and more inviting than the previous iteration.  Please poke around and let me know if there are any problems with it.

2019 was a great year for me.  I released "Hearts Get Broken," my 9th solo album and the fifth of my song oriented works.  It has been well received. I believe it is the best group of songs I have written over the last 10 or so years.

Over the course of the year I have been able to add all of my previously released albums to the collection available for sale at CD Baby. Most of the instrumental works have been out of print, or never were widely available until now.

My whole catalog is now available on iTunes, Amazon, Spotify, CD Baby and YouTube. The YouTube channel is called "Dave Hearn - Topic" and everything is there for your listening pleasure.  Of course I hope you will fall in love with the music and add it to your collection!

Until next year,

Dave

The Old Iowa Waltz - Piano Solos

Well it's time for another of my irregular blog posts. I'm proud to announce an addition to the Purchase page on this web site.

Twenty-one years ago, I released my only album of solo piano performances, “The Old Iowa Waltz - Piano Solos.” It has remained one of the most popular releases of my career. The music on “The Old Iowa Waltz - Piano Solos” was written and recorded originally in 1998 when this album was originally released.

This new album with the same title is not a re-issue, however. Instead this is a brand new recording of the same compositions I picked for inclusion 21 years ago.  It will go live on CDBaby on July 15th.

Why was this album rerecorded and released in 2019? This is a digital only release, but even in mp3 download quality, it is infinitely better than the original CD in every way. The performances are recreated here in stunning stereo mixes that greatly improve the listening experience! The performances have been rendered on a far superior instrument than the original. I feel that this new recording represents what “The Old Iowa Waltz - Piano Solos” was always intended to sound like.

Enjoy!

A Brand New Website and a New Album

Welcome to the Dave Hearn "once-in-a-while" blog.

The big news today is that my long awaited website is done, finally, and it's just in time for the release of a new album of original songs, Hearts Get Broken!  In the works for two years, Hearts Get Broken is a song cycle on the theme of lost love inspired by the simple and direct ideas expressed in the works of the early Beatles and the Beach Boys.  That shouldn't be taken to mean that the album sounds like those artists (although I definitely can point out some mild similarities), but that the themes of the songs are simple and direct in the way those artists' songs were. I'm very happy with the way the record turned out.  I think it's my best work yet.  It'll be interesting to see what the public thinks!  If you want to comment on this post, I'd be pleased!

In the meanwhile, I hope you'll take a look at the site, and maybe find something you want to take home.  Be sure to check out the audio from each of my albums represented here.

Have a great day, and enjoy!
